I just got off the phone with my mom, and we were talking about how much we’re looking forward to Christmas together tomorrow! Over the course of the conversation, she asked if I were calling from work (at the library) or home. I thought it was a funny question, since I rarely initiate a call to them during work hours, but I just said, “Oh, I’m home! The library’s closed.” She commented that she didn’t hear any of the usual work activity in the background of our conversation.
Since we hung up, one of the things I’ve been pondering is what my workplace sounds like. I’m in Technical Services of an academic library, so the sounds are different from public space. Still, it has me thinking about the sounds of work.
