Reinventing the Library

The April 2011 issue of Working @ Duke includes an article about Duke University Libraries, the library I work for, entitled “Recession spurs library to reinvent itself.” Several of the changes mentioned affect my work on a real level, like ebooks and shelf-ready books. I find several other issues interesting, like the increase in virtual reference.and electronic journals.

Yet, as our library director was quoted, more students are coming to the library! Whether it’s to study, work with others in the group study rooms, hang out in the library’s coffee shop, go to class, or a variety of other reasons, it’s a “happenin’ place” on campus.

Another reason I bring up this article is that my mug shot is in it, looking at a Kindle! Scroll down to page 6 to find the article, and you’ll see my picture!

  1. That’s pretty awesome! Now that’s what I call being innovative.
