Advocacy, Speaking Up for the Profession, & Getting Published (Thing 16, CPD23)

When I saw the topic for Thing 16 of the CPD23 blog, I smiled and remembered the YouTube video that Dr. Abdullahi showed our group at the end of Foundations (LIS 5000) class last Saturday. When Piers Cawley heard that the library he visits was under threat of closure, he wrote a protest song called, “Child of the Library.” It’s charming, meaningful, and right to the point! Check it out below:

On the publishing front, I haven’t ever published anything for professional publication, but I’ve had the wise advice to write grad school papers as if they could be submitted for publication sometime in the future. I recently bought the book The Grad Student’s Guide to Getting Published, but haven’t read it yet. I do have two papers due this semester, so it’s food for thought.
